2019 APPLICATION FOR SCHOLARSHIP

The Saturday Club of Vacaville has for many years awarded scholarships to talented students of the arts who live in
Vacaville. The amount and number of scholarships offered each year is dependent on the funds available and other
considerations set by the Board of the Saturday Club Foundation. Scholarship funds are to be used by the awardee(s) to
attend a college, university, or specialized school and for the advancement of particular skills and talents in the cultural
arts. However, a major in a cultural arts field is not a requirement. Please read the following Eligibility Requirements and
Application Instructions carefully, prior to submitting your application packet:
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Scholarship(s) shall be awarded without regard to race, religion, or sex. Applicants must fulfill the following requirements:
1. Be a legal resident of Vacaville or Elmira, residing within the 95687, 95688, or 95625
zip code area
2. Be a senior in high school or undergraduate level college student
3. Show an outstanding talent in one of the cultural arts, i.e.:
a. Music (either instrument or voice)
b. Dance
c. Theater Arts
d. Creative writing
e. Visual arts
f. Media production
4. Demonstrate high moral character, good citizenship, and the determination to
develop his/her talent
INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICATION
In order to be considered for a Saturday Club Scholarship Award read the requirements and complete the application
packet as outlined on the following pages and mail to the address below prior to the deadline of March 15, 2019.

Each application packet must include the following:
1. Application and a copy of current Transcript
2. Two letters of recommendation One of the letters should be from a teacher/counselor who is well acquainted with
you, and another letter from an instructor in the field of the talent(s) of the applicant is required.
3. A brief, written autobiography giving pertinent information about your interests and significant people who have
pointed you toward your talent. Please also indicate how you intend to advance such talent, as well as to continue to
contribute to society by way of your talent while pursing higher education, in your planned career, and in your
personal life.
Candidates chosen for Scholarship consideration should be prepared to:
1. *Attend a brief interview with the Saturday Club Scholarship Committee; the interviews will be scheduled during the
last week of April. At this session you will be expected to perform or demonstrate your talent. (Qualified applicants will
be notified of the time schedule and other details regarding this session.) You will be judged on the following:
Presentation and Attitude Technique Interpretation Definite Goals and Aims Evidence of a determination
to succeed Talent in a specialized field
*Plan to come prepared with your instrument, accompanist, or examples of your work to demonstrate your talent. A piano
will be available for your use; however, other media systems are not available. * Plan your presentation, including set
up time, to be completed within stated time limits.
If music is your talent memorizing is desirable. Self-compositions are acceptable. However, candidates must perform at
least one piece of published music.
Creative writing applicants please submit a sample of your completed writing with your application packet (please limit to
500 words or less).
2. Candidates must be available to demonstrate his/her talent at a Meeting of the Saturday Club, to be scheduled at on the
second Saturday morning in May, should they be chosen for an award.
Proof of Enrollment/Registration
In order for the scholarship funds to be disbursed, the scholarship winner must fulfill one of the following by October 1,
2019. Funds will be disbursed only as indicated.
1. Provide a written verification of admission to a college, university or specialized school. Upon such verification, the
funds will be disbursed in the form of a check made out to the college, university or specialized school being attended.
2. Provide written verification of enrollment (fees not yet paid). Upon such verification, funds will be disbursed in the form
of a check made out to the college, university or specialized school being attended.
3. Provide written verification of enrollment and registration (fees already paid by student). Upon such verification, funds
will be disbursed in the form of a check made out to the scholarship recipient.
